Steinway & Sons was founded in 1853 by German immigrant Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (later Henry Steinway) in New York City. The company quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality pianos, emphasizing craftsmanship, innovation, and acoustical perfection. By the late 19th century, Steinway had introduced numerous technical patents that significantly advanced piano construction, solidifying its position as a premier piano maker. Steinway pianos became known for their rich tonal quality, responsive action, and durability, attracting world-class pianists. Over the decades, Steinway continued to grow, establishing a factory in Hamburg, Germany, and becoming a leading name in luxury grand and upright pianos worldwide.
The 1920-1930’s has been coined as the “golden years” of Steinway and is considered by many in the industry to be when they were at the height of their craftsmanship, making these vintages highly sought after.

This Steinway L grand was entrusted to us in early 2023 for the installation of new action parts including: hammers, whippens, backchecks, and key bushings. Our owner Ed Tomlinson RPT (Registered Piano Technician) did all the action work and regulation. We also facilitated the refinishing work to the exterior, which came out absolutely stunning. It’s also a rarity to have a 1920’s ‘golden era’ Steinway with unchipped original ivory keytops.
The end result is the classic Steinway tone that helped make them famous in the first place.
Local delivery (within 30 miles of our store) of a grand this size would typically cost $400, and is included at no extra charge with purchase.
