George Steck, a German-born piano maker, founded the George Steck Piano Company in 1857 in New York City. Known for his exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs, Steck quickly gained a reputation as a high-quality piano manufacturer. By the late 19th century, Steck pianos were held in high regard for their tone, durability, and responsive action, winning awards at international exhibitions. In 1904, the company became part of the Aeolian Company, one of the largest piano manufacturers of the time, allowing Steck pianos to reach even broader markets and maintain their reputation for excellence.

Over the 20th century, George Steck pianos went through a series of ownership changes as the Aeolian Company eventually merged with other manufacturers. The brand persisted under various corporate umbrellas and was eventually acquired by the Samick Musical Instrument Company in the late 20th century. 

The Steck pianos are now being made by Nanjing Moutrie Piano Company in Nanjing, China and distributed by Welkin Sound Inc. in Ontario, California.

Serial # KD8560

While this George Steck grand is hard to date precisely with the serial number, it is certainly c.2012 or newer.  This piano was privately owned and is in like new condition throughout the interior and exterior finish.  When the piano arrived, it went through a day of tuning/fine prep work on the action to further refine the touch response and improve performance.

At 4’8″, this piano is classified as “petite” and would be a great fit for those where space in the home is a consideration.
